My Godmother Jean treated me to a trip to Thailand for graduating from college, which we were finally able to take! It is amazing there… I would go back to Thailand in a second. The people are kind, the food is delicious and the weather, well, it’s hot, too hot sometimes, but it’s manageable.
We were part of the tour group, Overseas Adventure Travel. I was the youngest in the group of 12, by far. We started in Bangkok and worked our way up on our private coach bus to the Golden Triangle in Chiang Rai. We stopped at so many interesting places on the way as you can see in some of the photos.
There were two highlights of the trip for me. We visited a preschool one morning. Children were waiting for us when we stepped off the bus. I walked right over to a few over them and squatted down to their level, leaving my camera at my side. They put flower necklaces over all of us and then preceded to take our hands to lead us over to the flag pole in front of the school (I struggled to hold in the tears). Once we were inside on the floor playing games with the children, I was told by one woman in the group that I looked so happy! She thinks I’m going to have 12 kids. I’ll say 2-3. Maybe.
On the last day, I trained with an Australian Muay Thai boxer! I don’t think I’ll ever sweat as much as I did within that one hour ever again. But, the experience was totally worth it.
These bananas are called “thumbnail bananas”. So cute!
Tommy took a 3-hour bus ride to Kanchanaburi to see me!! He’s been working in Thailand for almost a year.
Those are rats on the left side of the image.
1,000 year old eggs…not really. That’s just their name.
This is the owner’s son at the chopstick factory that we pulled over to see.
I asked a girl about her plastic camera that didn’t look familiar. She took a photo of me to keep!
This is the hill tribe called Akha.
My new love –> Elephants.
Micah was in an episode of CSI while we were in Thailand!
Thank you Jean for taking me on such a wonderful trip!! I will never forget it.
