I met a lovely woman at the festival this past weekend and visited her farm in Oregon yesterday. Lynne’s farm is called Sauk Creek Alpacas. She is in the county, but also in a little neighborhood of homes. Behind her house is a pie shape field for the alpacas to roam. All 21 of them know Lynne of course, but when I showed up, they became really cautious, just kind of staring at me. Once they found out we brought a bag of carrots, they surrounded us. When I was squatting down at one point taking a picture, a smaller brown one came up behind me, smelled my hair then rested his head on mine. I felt so happy and calm. At one point I told Lynne that I felt like I was one of them in the herd…is that weird? I just felt like I belonged! Alpacas are such gentle and adorable creatures.
I’m going back tomorrow to experience the shearing process. They’re going to look a ton different after tomorrow!!
