Scattergood Good Friends School is located outside the small town of West Branch, Iowa – (population 2,300). Roughly 60 students attend the Quaker boarding school, some of which travel from countries all over the world. About five percent of the students practice Quakerism, while the majority do not, but their beliefs to value simplicity, personal integrity and non-violence are present. All of the students are taught to rely on the Quaker principles of community, equality, and harmony when dealing with day-to-day issues. Beth photographed at Scattergood for an entire school year, documenting students living in close quarters, attending classes, and experimenting with sexuality, all the while trying to surpass the most awkward and transitional years in life.
