Ginny

This family is so near to my heart. I photographed their youngest child’s birth about two years ago in their home and have become close with them since. I remember waking up at 4am and having the urge to look at my phone. I scrolled down the Facebook newsfeed and saw the first post she published announcing the horrible horrible news. I couldn’t believe it. They found out that Ginny has cervical cancer. She’s been keeping a very personal blog about her whole experience. http://cisnotforcookie.blogspot.com/

After going through treatment year and not going to the doctor for a few months, she went back in for an appointment and they found that the cancer spread. She texted me the day she went in and said, “We are going to need family photos, asap”. Right away I couldn’t breath. In all honesty, I didn’t know if I could keep it together in front of them. The next day I went to their home and simply documented their everyday life. These are such perfect and genuine moments that they’ll be able to look back at and smile : )

The next week Ginny donated her hair. I would have been there to photograph for them, but I was headed for Austin, Texas. I definitely choked up looking at her blog post from that day, but man, she looks gorgeous. She’s a strong woman and I have no doubt that she’ll beat this.

One of Ginny’s friends started a website called, “Cancer Cell Sale” where people can purchase Ginny’s cancer cells so she can have less to fight.
